Project Borst Bloembollen
posted on: 14 February 2012 Saturday, February 18th Borst Bloembollen organizes an "Open Dag". Apart from the Climate and Energy Solutions, Van Zaal also installed a totally new Internal Transport System. We chose a flexible system, suitable for both soil and water heating, with "narrow" (60 cm) containers which can be picked from one side. Trough the contructed additional routes there is a maximum flexibility. This is necessary because of the wide variety of tulips in relatively small units. Overview and control because of complexity of routes and the high number of species tulips is very important. Therefore the system runs on the registration program ISAL/CTS installed by Indigo Solutions.
At present there are over 2200 containers in the system but the preparation for a second growing layer is made. Once the last tulips of the season are picked the second growing layer will be installed. This includes 3-speed elevators, 2 of which are equipped with an additional "hefstelling", so that at both levels simultaneously and independently of each other containers can be transported. The total number of containers arrive on over 3500 units, representing more than 5.5 million bulbs per pull.
Van Zaal also installed 10,500 m2 greenhouse heating, 50% of the greenhouse is equipped with Air Recirculation Units with outside air, thus providing better heat distribution and lower relative humidity. This improves the standard quality of the cultivars. The other 50% of the greenhouse is equipped with heating growth tubes, which are situated more than one meter above the cultivars. Both the 4 new cold storages as the 9 new dry walls are heated by Van Zaal with heater blocks. A fair number of all these aspects contributes to energy- and therefore cost savings for the company.
Van Zaal wishes Borst Bloembollen a successful Open Dag!

Icerink Garden of Amsterdam
posted on: 6 December 2011 Since September 2011, de Arendshoeve (18,500 m² greenhouse with plants and 3,200 m² greenhouse event location) has been renamed into The Garden Of Amsterdam. Van Zaal recently constructed an icerink on the site. Remarkably durable because the waste heat from the refrigeration is used for greenhouse heating behind the rink.Attended by several hundred invited guests, the official opening took place the first of December. However the icerink is not public. For more info, please check www.arendshoeve.com.
Van Zaal earlier realized at this site, through a connection with a composting company near by, greenhouse heating (18,500 sqm) with residual heat. This provides a saving of 500,000 to 800,000 m³ of natural gas (fossil fuel) and additionally there is no thermal pollution of the environment by composting plant.
