Project Borst Bloembollen

posted on: 14 februari 2012

Saturday, February 18th Borst Bloembollen organized an "Open Dag". Apart from the Climate and Energy Solutions, Van Zaal also installed a totally new Internal Transport System.

We chose a flexible system, suitable for both soil and water heating, with "narrow" (60 cm) containers which can be picked from one side. Trough the contructed additional routes there is a maximum flexibility. This is necessary because of the wide variety of tulips in relatively small units. Overview and control because of complexity of routes and the high number of species tulips is very important. Therefore the system runs on the registration program ISAL/CTS installed by Indigo Solutions.

At present there are over 2200 containers in the system but the preparation for a second growing layer is made. Once the last tulips of the season are picked the second growing layer will be installed. This includes 3-speed elevators, 2 of which are equipped with an additional "hefstelling", so that at both levels simultaneously and independently of each other containers can be transported. The total number of containers arrive on over 3500 units, representing more than 5.5 million bulbs per pull.
Van Zaal also installed 10,500 m2 greenhouse heating, 50% of the greenhouse is equipped with Air Recirculation Units with outside air, thus providing better heat distribution and lower relative humidity. This improves the standard quality of the cultivars. The other 50% of the greenhouse is equipped with heating growth tubes, which are situated more than one meter above the cultivars. Both the 4 new cold storages as the 9 new dry walls are heated by Van Zaal with heater blocks. A fair number of all these aspects contributes to energy- and therefore cost savings for the company.
